Trying Out the New 50D

This week I got a new Canon 50D, today after sleeping in I decided to head north to catch some trains on the B-Line and the Valley Line. My first stop however was Boyce, for lunch and to check on train movements.

After stopping at McDonalds Drive-Thru for some food. I arrived at the Boyce station to eat my food. Noticing that there was a southbound out of Vardo I decided to eat and then head for Cedarville which had better lighting. However before leaving I decided to take this shot of the station in the snow. Now all I need is a train in good light!

  • After eating lunch at Boyce I went to Cedarville for a southbound, which turned out to be 228. Knowing that there was an M1R following behind 228 I decided to give chase of 228 across the B-line.
  • A Second shot of 228 as he drapes over the hill at Cedarville. He is heading down into the bottom at Riverton where he will cross the Shenandoah River and head onto the B-Line.
  • I saw this shot at Irby last spring. I always had the feeling it would be a Neat shot. However I didn't know that the tracks turned in such a way that you get the train snaking through some curves. Look on the left above the Stack cars and you will see more stack cars, as the trains snakes its way through some farm fields.
  • After catching 228 at Irby I flipped back to Marshall for the M1R with the old Feed Mill in the background.
  • For some reason the Horse place at Allison has always seemed like it would make a neat photo with the crossing gate framing it. This shot works, well almost. I think I need to use the other crossing gate for the framing, and there needs to not be a shadow over the "Roasted Horse Feed" sign.
  • Now this works for the Horse Feed place, it is however not what I really would like. Oh well all the more reason to play with the shot some more.
  • After waiting awhile and talking to Nick. The 214 finally showed up at Allison in last light.
  • Here is a closer view of 214 at Allison.
